There are many factors that influence the vibe of the massage atmosphere. In massage school this topic is touched upon, but rarely are we taught the various nuances it entails. One of the first lessons I learned as an entrepreneur was that in business there are a thousand details. You can miss a handful of them and be fine, but once you neglect ten you will begin to appear sloppy and disorganized. Addressing all the details of a spa requires a lot of eyes. We must have an incredible attention to detail if we want to help others achieve the wellness they need.

Loudness

It is our responsibility as massage therapists to set the tone and atmosphere of a massage session. If our client is speaking loudly, we must lower our voice to encourage them to do the same. Lead your clients by speaking quietly and it will encourage them to mirror you. If they aren’t mirroring you, you will probably mirror them. Your voice will raise, then their voice will raise, and this will continue until you are both practically yelling. This will result in a terrible atmosphere in the spa.  It will foster animosity from your teammates and introduce poison into the workplace.

Sometimes a client is loud because they cannot hear well, in these instances we must be considerate to their needs. But they must also be considerate to the needs of other guests. This is a delicate tightrope to walk, but as professionals it is our responsibility to walk it in a way that protects the peace and harmony of the spa.

Little Bits

The goal is to make the spa clean, welcoming, and organized. When we are focusing on addressing the major issues, we often fail to see the little bits. These are small particulates that show up on carpet, mark the walls, and otherwise seem like insignificant details. Ultimately, they are details that add up, and over time they can transform an otherwise amazing looking environment into a sloppy trash heap.

We solve the little bits problem by addressing the little bits when we see them. This could be a small scrap of paper laying on the floor, a bottle of lotion left in the treatment room, or even a handprint on the wall. The more we come together to resolve the little bits the more inviting our massage atmosphere becomes.

Teamwork

A good team member is considerate, searches for ways to enhance the experience for everyone and serves as a guide. When we are good to each other the spirit of the spa will glow with divine radiance. If a team member is tired help them, if they are hurting offer them a hand to ease their pain, or simply remind them that they are great. Sometimes we feel lost, and we need someone to show us the way. When we work as a team it fosters good feels, positive vibes, and a magnificent massage atmosphere.
