Christopher Moyer, Ph.D., is a psychologist who has done research in massage therapy and meditation. He started a blog on research and massage therapy and I was honored that he asked to interview me for his blog.

I first got to know Chris when I heard that he’d done a metaanalysis that overturned what a lot of us thought about massage lowering cortisol. Curious, I looked him up on the internet and sent an email asking about his paper. Shortly after, I encountered him again in online discussions and it led to a friendship that was both professional and personal as we discovered we had many common interests.

Chris has been an asset to the massage therapy community, making valuable contributions to online discussions, teaching as a guest instructor at the Berkana Institute of Massage, and co-authoring the groundbreaking book Massage Therapy: Integrating Research and Practice.

Chris brings an important perspective to the field of massage therapy. As a researcher, he’s helped many of us to understand how to understand research, how to think critically about massage therapy and research, and has given some important suggestions as to what sort of directions massage therapy research might take in the future. His involvement in discussions with massage therapists helps bridge the gap between research and practice.

I’m grateful to Dr. Moyer for his willingness to share his knowledge and insight with us.
