Survival and Depression

Survival is written into our DNA, it is a force that keeps us going, makes us stronger and gives us a sense of “purpose”.  We are here to survive, to live and dedicate our time to being here. Why are we facing times where most of the population, at some point, thinks they do not want to be alive?

Why has the struggle of living become too great? Why is surviving no longer having a warm bed, food in our stomachs and clean water? We are depressed.  Finding food is easier than ever before in human history. You can literally go behind most buildings and dig through trash if you are hungry enough. Shelters and spaces for the homeless are available within a 30 min walk for most people within the city. Clean water, even if processed by chemicals, is available on tap in most buildings and parks.

How do we tap into our survival instinct?  We do it in our minds. We see a situation and go into fight or flight mode, a survival mindset based upon our past experiences with emotional and mental fears. It seeps in ways we don’t realize…

We see “others” and feel like we “need” to have “it”, not to keep us alive, but to make us happier… but how many experiences must we have to be happy?

Most people will actually focus on the things they “desire” BEFORE they take care of their survival needs! When did happiness in life become more powerful than being ALIVE?

Gratefulness

What if your focus everyday was not on a feeling inside but the experience you had on the outside? What if you felt so good on the inside that it was no longer a focus of healing, but an experience only returned to with gratitude?

  • Thank you for this experience
  • Thank you for this direction
  • Thank you for this trust

We must retrain how we think and see our past to live in the moment.

Life can be simple.  We do not have to have additional layers of complexities to live a peaceful life. We can live by healthier standards, instead of the ones we have come accustomed to.

Our happiness can be more than anything billboard, magazine advertisement, or commercial can offer.

How?

  • Prayer
  • Nature
  • Patience
  • Relation

When we disconnect our thoughts from fear, doubt, anger, and entitlement we begin to transform how we see and feel the world around us. We need to step back, give grace, patience, and understanding by refraining from blaming the things around us for our thoughts and feelings.

We can either get eaten by the person we want to become or feed the goodness we want to be.

BE GRATEFUL
